Planewatching in St. Maarten, Part Deux

So I shared my own shots from Sunset Beach Bar....I found the attached photo from National Geographic, it's amazing.

You must add planewatching in St. Maarten to your list of vacations to take.  People come from all over the world to photograph this airport and runway.

Missing in Action....

Hola.....I've been missing in action far too long.   So I have not been traveling much this spring, but I am preparing for Memorial Day Weekend.  It's time for me to hit the Caribbean again.    I will spend just a little bit of time blogging about plane-watching at Princess Juliana airport in St. Maarten, at the world famous Sunset Beach Bar.   It's an aviation geek's dream to get up close and personal to aircraft takeoffs and landings.  Nothing comes to close to it within the U.S.

There are typically crowds daily gathered at Maho Beach, next to the runway with cameras and cellphones to capture the action.  I have been going to the Sunset Beach Bar for years, and my favorite sighting is seeing the landing of KLM or Air France 747 on such a small runway, with so many people close by.   The real thrill seekers get very close to the runway, hold on during takeoff, and catch the jet blast, which can be dangerous...the sand blast is powerful....Here are a few pictures from my collection through the years.  More to come....
